I have been using www.vodpod.com as a tool for using youtube and others in schools with blocked access. Perhaps this is a way of individuals managing content from these sites. Hope this is of use - Mike

This is a useful tool. However, downloading videos from YouTube does break their terms and conditions.

Section 4 of the Terms of Use states:

Content on the Website is provided to you AS IS for your information and personal use only and may not be used, copied, reproduced, distributed, transmitted, broadcast, displayed, sold, licensed, or otherwise exploited for any other purposes whatsoever without the prior written consent of the respective owners.

They have already threatened action against other video download tool websites: YouTube Threatens Legal Action Against Host of Video Download Tool

YouTube is blocked in Buckinghamshire as well. It's such a shame as there is some useful stuff on there. Maybe it's time LAs were a little less restrictive in their web filtering and we focused more on teaching children about the safe use of the internet. Besides, it's not as if they can't use YouTube at home!

Now that is a really useful link. I've just had a bit of a play and it seems to do what I need anyway. I've passed the link to the rest of our IT dept as a tool we can use.

This could allow pupils to do the same which would mean out of hours access to you tube being brought back in to the school (both good and bad?)

cheers
