I am after a couple of new gadgets so I thought I would try and get the opinions of people who read my blog prior to me purchasing anything.

I received a Video iPod for Christmas and am in the market for a microphone and a fm transmitter for the car (possibly with a charger). After scowering the market there appears to be a several options for the transmitter:

The microphones I have found include:

The last thing I am contemplating purchasing is a graphics tablet for my MacBook Pro, the Wacom Graphire4 seems to be the one that gets teh best reviews.

If anyone owns any of the above or knows someone who does I would be really pleased to hear your thoughts.

Cheers

I just ordered a Kensington FM transmitter (a different one than you have linked, doesn’t have the RDS feature), and a TuneTalk. I chose the Kensington FM because it had great reviews on ilounge.com and amazon.com. Apparently the ones which rely on the iPod’s battery put out too weak a signal; you want one which plugs into the car. Go for the Kensington.

For the microphones… they are both comparable in terms of sound quality, but the iTalk is cheaper. However, the TuneTalk has one nice (and for me, vital) extra feature: a pass-through USB port so the iPod can charge or run off external power (via laptop USB, outlet power, or a USB battery box) while recording. Without this feature, you’re limited to less than a couple of hours of recording– no good for a day’s worth of lectures.

I have an iTrip. It’s fine. If you go scouring looking for reviews you’ll read people can’t pick up the signal in certain places and also that the sound quality isnt great.
The signal can be ropey. I have 2 cars, well access to …. - and in one i just sit the ipod/itrip in fron of the gear stick and its hunky dory, but in the other the signal is a bit crackly/hissy.
The sound quality isn’t marvelous when compared to a CD or FM radio station but it’s grand.
Overall - not marvelous but it does do what it says on the tin.
Tim.
